When you are a judge, what do you look for?
Do you like the people who are more dignified or do you like the dancers who go for it? Does the dancers outfit influence your scoring? If a big name dancer is having an off day, would you score another dancer above him? If a dancer oversteps, do you still score him on your ballot?

When you are a judge, what do you look for?
I look for unique-ness. I watch to make sure they do things at appropriate times, i look to see if they droppedn anything. Also look at moves Do you like the people who are more dignified or do you like the dancers who go for it? ?????? Does the dancers outfit influence your scoring? Yes. If they have a grass dance outfit and they're dancing traditional, well, you know what i mean. I look to see if they put time and heart into their outfit. If a big name dancer is having an off day, would you score another dancer above him? Of coarse, i am fair in judging unless someone offers me money. AYYES, no im kidding, im fair. If a dancer oversteps, do you still score him on your ballot? Yes, i usually score everyone. Over-stepping happens, aka not getting into teh song, or not knowing the song type. Although they will definetly have a lower score.

When you are a judge, what do you look for?
Dance style, unique steps, outfit Do you like the people who are more dignified or do you like the dancers who go for it? go for it, they need to show that they want to win for me to pick them, dont care who they are-it is a contest right? Does the dancers outfit influence your scoring? yes If a big name dancer is having an off day, would you score another dancer above him? yes, just because u r who u r, u still need to dance good to win. thats the problem now, people just win because of their names. If a dancer oversteps, do you still score him on your ballot no, im strict....u need to know the song ur dancing too. i mean, a good dancer can hear the song for the first time and know when to stop on time because of the sound of the beats.

Red t and sauk p,
Thanks for responding. It is good to learn what judges are looking for. I guess every judge has different criteria that they look for? On the second question, I need to make a point of clarification. It is not the effort I was looking for. It was more traditional vs. contemporary. Personally I pick traditional dancers who dance more conservatively and dignified like Terry Fiddler, Charles Hensley, Terry Brockie, Pat Moore, Frank McKay, et al. They all still jam but not go for it with all the dips and arm movements. Also they don't seem to run when they dance. If one of my favorite dancers overstepped and it was noticeable or if they did not dance well during their go-round, I would be fair and score accordingly.
