ive been trying to do as much research as possible on my new outfit, and im not really 100% positive what im thinking of how i want my outfit to look like is from what area, whether it be northeastern woodlands or plains, or just northern. a couple of things i just want to clarify for myself, if anyone can answer the following questions i have, that would be greatly appreciated...
men traditionally wear high mocs or low? would it be ok to wear high mocs or is that more of a women thing? i have a turtle shell that i am planning on using as a shield, if my outfit is tending to look more like plains style, would i be correct in using the shell as a shield? types of feathers...should i mainly use turkey or goose or duck or is it ok to use a combination of them? as far as leggings...ive seen the pics from the gallery, and noticed that most of the leggings tend to be the leather fringe with the angora around the ankles...is that more for competition style or actually traditional style? vest...type of fabric it can be made out of for either style? and how it should look. right now, if im not mistaken i have a 12" porky roach with a small base and a silver spreader. black apron with white leather fringe, black pigskin leggings (it was cheaper, and i wanted to test out something new), ribbon shirt and vest. as well as a breast plate. the colors im leaning towards are the red, yellow, white and black. so any advise or suggestions would be great. thank you in advance. joe

Low moccasins. Really high mocs on guys are really, really boyscout bad.
I do not suggest the turtle shell at all, but that is personal choice. Turkey feathers only. except for trim There are NO leggings in the gallery worn with angora, or anywhere else. Angora is not worn with leggings. It is fancy dance or Traditional powow style. Please read and study many photos.

Geez.....well here goes. If you are going to dance Northern Tradish then your regalia should be Northern Traditional. As that style of regalia and dance came from the Plains it is important to respect its roots and come correct. You shouldn't mix and match. It is one or the other. Even though no matter how great your regalia and dancing may be you will find some people out West always have something to say. No pleasing everybody. Secondly. Don't take shortcuts on your regalia. Pigskin?! C'mon man. Your regalia should be very special to you and what it is made of is just as important. At least thats how I see it. Leave the cheap immitation crap to the Boy Scouts. If you simply MUST buy those Minnetonka mocs get the more plain variety and cut off the stupid fringe. At least bead em up a little. If you get those damn go go boots you deserve every sneer and laugh that is thrown your way. Minnetonka go go boots are the calling card of the wannabe. There are Eastern straight competitions at the better powwows up here, but again you have to come correct. Do your homework, talk to the dancers, ask your elders, but before you make a fool of yourself make sure you spent the time and effort it takes to put together a nice set of regalia. Don't do a half *** job because it will show. Just my thoughts on the subject.
