Question feather visors

Ah yes...

I would like to know how many people you know wear a feather visor... and how you suggest how to make one.

thanks,

I know maybe 3 guys who have one. As far as making one, best bet would be to ask someone that has one how they did theirs. I don't have one and I have mixed feelings about them, I've seens some that are real nice and some that aren't, part of this is contributed to the size of feathers that are being used. Personally I think if you are going to use one a smaller one looks a little better.

visor

I Use One,but Only On Really Sunny Days.i Usually Just Wear My Roach Or Mop Top. In Making One You Need To Obtain 12 Baldies Or Golden Tail Feathers. If You Cant Get The Real Thing Do Your Best. Put It Together The Same Way That You Would Say Your Bustle.use 2 7-8mm Beads To Give It That Flare In The Front.

there are many ways to make them. and they all work. the one that i do and it works best for me is:

1) cut out 2 circles out of leather.
2) lay out the feathers the way you want them
3) glue them down between the leather(will look for the name
of the glue)
4) when the glue dries punch a hole in the center so you can
scalp lock or roach ties in it.

well, you can do shoulder wings the same way as i explained for the visors. but the only difference is i would tape some bobby pins to the quills before you glue it. that way you can put a shoe string through the bobby pins so you can tie the shoulder wings on.

and for a visor for a mop top, i would put the feathers on it like you do the rest of the feathers on the hat but tack them down onto the visor of the ball cap so they don't move around.

hope this helps.

what i do is put a long shoe string to the bobbie pins and just tie it around my neck. it stays on pretty good. i never had it slide yet. you just have to have the spacing right. i'll take a pic of my set and post it, so you can see it.

Thumbs up visor

Aho: The way I was showed to make a visor is to use 9-12 tail feathers, take a piece of florest wire and run it through the quil about 1-2" from the end you can lay out your feathers before doing this and see how many you will need. you can space them out with some crow beads, 1 in between each feather,if you need to .next I use a heavy bobbie pin on the end of each feather, cut the end off and then use a hot glue gun to install the pins.at this time i use essential oil(cedar) and drop a little into the open end.this will help with keeping the feather fresh and clean plus it will give of a nice sent.next glue the feather into place on the wireand pull your ends tight with a piece of buck skin lace ,you want the smallest hole you can get at the end with the pins.this will make a hole for your top knot to fit thru and then thru your pasha(roach).next sew in two small pieces of buck skin lace onto your roach, this will give you a place to tie the visor one on each side of the roach is needed this will then be tied to the visor on the wire and will keep the visor in place and make it removable for storage.

Feather Visors

Is it true that the ones who wore feather visors long ago, like when we were all warriors and who we try to be today when in our outfits, the ones that never seen action. I don't wanna look like a wimpy warrior who seen no action so I don't wanna wear a feather visor. Plus the visor makes people look like their stingy of feathers, some woman coulda had a fan. There are also those dancers that have women that have no fan and the "man" has this visor on with really nice feathers and his woman is forced to use roadkill. lol.

"stingy"

Good Morning: I don't know what your tradtions are but the way I've been taught is that "we" are to earn our feathers, whether tru a battle(i.e.military) conquering drug additions, alchol, illness or a pesonal battle within ones self.
As for some one being stingy w/feathers that is the way they are,I know that it is not right and it is sad to see this happen with that person/family. All we can do is pray for them and that they start to "learn" what creator has laid out for us. We must remember of the ones how have pased before us and to teach the ones behind us, and that we are not to judge anyone for that is not our place. We are told that women have ways to earn feathers as well, some in the same way and some tru ceremonies that are only known to them and their tribal affiliation.
