Hmmmmmm.

I don't know of anybody that has just found a bustle (and kept it). What do you mean by "find?"

I think you need to obtain the feathers and have someone make the bustle for you.

If you go to powwows, inform some traditional dancers of your request. They may not have a bustle to give you, but may direct you to someone who can help you.

In my lifetime, I have seen it in my heart to make a double row bustle and give it to a a young man who wanted to dance and I have also given my extra one to another young man who had the desire to dance.

It is acts like this that perpetuate our powwow culture.

I make my own bustles. They are not very hard to make. you could make a really good one in a few days.

I also prefer making my bustle, it gives me more satisfaction and makes it special. The Scott Evan's book gives some basic instructions on making them. There are also threads in the archives about some tips on making them. My advice is take your time making it, and use yarn on the extenders. Your dad will appreciate it more if you not only give him a bustle, but also make it yourself.

If you must buy one, they won't be real feathers but painted or some other substitute like goose, peahen, or turkey. Ebay has a guy who sells them, Native Ventures, as well as a guy on this site and ebay, Two Eagles. Again I prefer making my own though and plan on making my second bustle during the Christmas break.

Sometimes bustles can be found roaming around in the wild. They're hard to spot, but you can sometimes find them if the sunlight shines off their uprights. Just keep a hard look out for them.

Ok, I'm a moderator so I guess I have to give a serious answer too...have you applied for feathers through the U.S. Fish and Wildlife? Takes awhile, but it is an excellent source.

I make the bustles for myself and my sons. Nothing like the feeling of finishing a piece of craft work, standing back and looking at it for the first time, D@mn that looks good and I made it YEA! Or the feeling you get when you are at a dance and someone says to you, where did you get that nice....bustle, fan, etc. and you can reply I made it.

Same applies when a member of your family can reply my son/daughter, husband/wife, etc made it for me.

I earned mine by going to the 1st Gulf War. My Dad got one made for me. It took sometime to get the bustle, but I have a double bustle ( eagle & hawk) now and proud of it. It even has the feathers wrapped in Marine Corps colors red & gold.
