I understand a lot depends on the committee and who is in charge on any particular year.
In the past I have gone to Crow Fair at least 5 times. The last time I went, I got about 10 singers together and set up a drum. At the end of the powwow, the person in charge invited all the lead singers into his tipi to discuss the payout to the drums. Once inside the tipi he said he was sorry and could only give the drums that came from great distances $50 to split with their singers. He encouraged us to stay for Monday's giveaway day and promised to tell the Crow people of this situation that occurred in order to encourage them to recognize the singers with gifts. So I stayed an extra day. And I got a $10 bed blanket for doing so. Consequently, I haven't been back. Sometimes I like to sing just like to sing for the pleasure of it. But in this case I was about a 1000 miles from home and my share of our portion of the drum split was $5. Oh well ... I still have a lot of close Crow friends.

this is a real inconsiderate thing to do ... to your fellow human being. before the pow wow even began .. you know you don't have the money. why go forward with it still?
many many people travel far distances to get somewhere ... mind you its ALWAYS a good idea to make sure you have money to get home on ... but to spend the whole weekend somewhere and the sponsors know damn well that they dont have the money they promised and promoted. let this be a lesson to every other pow wow person out there .. dont go to this event next year and the year after that .. and any time you see the people that were on this committe, take what they have a with a grain of salt from now on. the next time they come up to you and say ... "brother how have you been?" like they never did you wrong ...

This sounds purty Rugged.....Although i'll say I have Crow Relatives and they have always treated me good.... So the focus should be on the Committee......Too bad things like this have to pop up? Whats right is right though and whats wrong is wrong.....Anyone setting up a big doings should certainly have things in order before hand....Don't "pull weak" and be all should a could a would a @ the 11th hour....? Hopefully it works out.....
