I think that anyone who sings with da big 'yote dog would have a unique sound....I know I usually do when I sit at the drum with him...LOL!!!

Yesh, Eagle Feather is jammin', clear crisp, good drum beat, good soundin', appeasing to the ear if you will.
Nakoda Lodge is unique fo' sho. Others might think otherwise on the appeasing to the ear thing, but personally I like it when singers could give a goot got dang about stayin' inside the box. Alotta groups up that way have considerable uniqueness: Nakota Nation, Stoney Park, Chiniki Lake (Eya Hey later on). Crooked Lake Agency, I liked them cuz they just cruised along, didn't pound the drum like they were mad at their gramma! ![]() And of course the WFB drums, Northern Wind and Whitefish Bay, Jrs.

Tough Question.
Stoney Park is totally unique til this day lotsa drums change up, some even go southern, hmm... ...Tha Tribe is unique...*thinking back on Haskell* ..aahhh.. Yeah I remember the Assinaboine Jr.'s hittin the scene w/ everyone tryin' to record'em... Red Bull is unique 2. Chiniki Lake. Black Bear. Ft Kipp, Haystack, Rocky Boy, Southern Cree. Black Lodge of course, even White Lodge, yup. Wait wait, we are all unique, but I know what you mean. So now today, who's unique....Indian Nation, Dry Lake, hmm...I'll have to think about it. MANDAREE!!! OAKDALE DEADGRASS NEWTOWN SINGERS THUNDER BUTTE & THE WOLF CLAN...CAN'T REMEMBER THE NAME NOW...UHH FOUR BEARS? NO...UHH...OK GOTTA GET BACK TO WORK.

In a world where drums use their uniqueness in order to produce the current "winning sound" .... I have to go with Mandaree (Keeping it real), Black Eagle (Using pueblo words) and Eagle Feather (Unique voice lead).

There is Life in this Forum....errr!
Good references....I liked reading em...Oh and in no way was I trying to overlook SaaaaThurn singing...Just figured we're in a Northern Forum....It all falls in place though....I remember the 1st time I heard Eagle Feather some years ago....They had a real distinct lead and sound....Good singing and their very own nuance....Just something that I found interesting...Over the years I heard a number of different styles....Yes that makes the group and yes they are all unique....To fall back on some Saaathurn music. I was just listening to Grayhorse from 1982.....Now that was a unique sound....Awesome music....Memories huh Who Me! |

i first hear Eagle Feather at Badlands pow wow in Brockton Mt.
Mandarre and Eagle Feather had a sing off for first place in the singing comp. (i think i got that tape someplace.) this was about 12 or so years ago. give or take a couple of years. but when i first heard that lead, i went running knocking over things and trying to get a recording of that 'unique' sound.
