I....like the good ole cassette recorder....Small job you find at Wal-Mart for 20 bucks or so....MP3's are getting popular....My father In-Law uses one....Good sound good quality....Now if your really looming to get in depth a DAT is an awesome device as well....$$$ gets pricey....I'd stick with the good ole recorder....(Cassette) Question for you....Are you an aspiring Powwow Label?

well the best recorder for me at "live" pow wows is....

one of my nephews. i pick the tallest and skinniest one who can squeeze in between ppl and get right up to the drum and record.

and of course a Wally World recorder with a couple of blank tapes. i usually get a cheap one since i usaully drop it or one of my friends "accidentally" borrows it. LOL.

but the high quality stuff- i dont know.

you gotta get a condensor mic tho. i have a mini-disk recorder with a shotgun stereo condensor mic.

i point it at te drum and since it is a shotgun mic it picks up the drum in the center and the people around it are in stereo.

you can practically tell where each person is sitting when you listen to the tape.

gotta be condensor tho otherwise the drum will drop the recording level down or completely drown out the vocals.

Thumbs up Try this one for high quality recordings.

As a semi-pro recording engineer, I really recommend a compact flash recorder for portability and flexibility. My favorite one out there is the H4 from Zoom. It has a built in stereo pair of mics, or you can patch in your own. Check it out and I promise you won't be disappointed.

I can't argue with my Panasonic Mini-DV video recorder.

After I drop my video onto DVD I capture the audio and use Cool Edit Pro to jazz it up a little. Comes out pretty good, even sounds better than a couple of native record companies out there.
