My timing is nooo good!
I'm just starting out druming, I sing ok and I drum Pretty good but I'll tell you what, when I combine the two I sound like Ive never drummed or sang in my life. Is there any thing I could do to help these skills combine into one.

Just do one or the other to get a knack. Many people well tell you that it is better to have SINGERS than DRUMMERS. Do your singing and stay on the edge of the drum lightly until you learn to keep better time.
Too many people are out there NOT singing, they just sit with the drum and take up space. Is it that you tend to sing on beat or just cant do both at all?

with a purdy stick? LOL I dont know.
Seriously... hit the edge of the drum, not with the middle of the stick like grass dance clicks but just so you dont make a noise. Watch the head singers stick. If you ever get off beat pull your stick off the drum, then start back in on the rim. DONT BE AFRAID!!! If you got a good singing voice you aint gonna get asked to leave for a few misbeats. My trouble is I get off time when I lead sometimes. I concentrate too much on throwing that lead out there, and blow the rhythm. Luckily I got my boys sittin there backin me up. The drum is a team, they all gotta watch each others backs, and when someone messes up the rest just turn it up a little so no one is the wiser. I notice a lot of times someone throws the lead out there, they usually dont repeat the lead because they gotta catch their breath or whatever, and their boys pick up the song. You can tell a crappy drum when their boys dont pick up the lead and that head singer is tryin to repeat with no breath left in his lungs. Derek |

On your next drive to work, put on your favorite powwow CD. Then sing and tap along on the dashboard. This will help acclimate you to singing and drumming at the same time.
If you don't work.... "your blowed up!" *L

If you're allowed to sit in on some practice sessions with a good drum, you'll know when your drumming is off. Your stick will rebound in odd ways, because the drum is not receiving your hit; it is sending it away. It's a weird and awful feeling. It MAKES you want to get on the beat...and eventually, you do.

Always says....Don't be afraid to hit that drum.....Don't beat it up, but don't hold back....You have to have your rhythm set and once your in time...singing will follow....People have given you some good advice....Always remember to have fun....
