How to get a Host Drum.....

The Keepers of the Fire Indian Club at the University of Wyoming set their date (March 31st/April 1st)and are planning their biannual powwow in Laramie, Wyoming. They're wondering how to contact and arrange a Host Drum.

Anybody got suggestions, or any drums out there willing?

Create a flyer; "HOST DRUM WANTED" with all the powwows details on it, don't promise what you cannot do for them, make copies, distribute them, send to everyone as attachment on email list, take to every native event and gathering. Finally, start a thread on Powwows.com, I had very good luck doing it that way.

Thanks! I'll let them know!

I'm trying to help my daughter out. They only have a few active members this year and none that helped organize the powwow two years ago.

What are you gonna take bids??? A flyer???

Just get the Bum Kneez!!!

But seriously, just ask around if you have any idea of which drums you like or think will be good. Guaranteed someone will know how to contact them.

And make sure you have a contract with a SET FEE that they will agree to. Sometimes people like to hold the powwow hostage and request more money once they get there.

But that shouldnt be a problem if you go with a drum with good referances.

Back to bidding.....SINGERS UNION LOCAL #49

And sometimes if you just offer a nice place to stay and gas and or meals, they will agree to come also.... YES, I said make up a flyer, so you have something to give drums when you introduce yourself to them and tell them who you represent. A smile and presentation goes a long way these days..

I agree. You know, it is more convenient and proper, especially for more of the community events, to find a local or near by, or tribal, up and coming drum group that knows the songs, protocol and what not, to come and jam out.

Plus you don't have to get them rooms, juss let'em stay at your aunties or uncles house, aye!

Then they can eat cereal and play X-Box with your nieces and newphews...
