One of the funniest things I've seen happened while we were singing a veterans song in Greensboro, NC about 5 yrs ago. My brother had made us some new sticks, but on the last couple of them he just rushed through trying to get 'em done before the powwow.
On the last push up my cousin started the down beats & the head of his NEW stick slipped off, flew across the drum & smacked my 8 yr. old nephew in the head, who was standing in between me & my brother watching us sing.
I'm glad it was the last pushup because we were barely able to finish we were laughing so hard.
To make it worse my sister-in-law got it all on video. We watched that thing for six months before she finally got mad & erased it.

Dont worry my nephew was ok, just a bruised ego, thats all.

Now that I think about it, I dont remember my bro making any more sticks after that.
I just glad I made a copy before she erased it...

And why are drum sticks always a problem, last pow wow I was at, I was using an old stick and and the handle seperated and started slipping down the shaft... thank god I had an extra... LOL... now I know why all them old timers have that second stick they hold on too...

i got anotherone for ya'll.

at this one pow-wow a a long time ago. we had this new guy who started singing with us. he had practiced with us through out the winter. anyway he was ready to make his public appearance.

the drum rotation was still about 1 drums away but there started to be recorders and what not starting to gather around us. we was all sitting there talking with each other and chilling while waiting for our turn.

anyway i looked over at tthe new guy and he started looking nervous and he was sweating. as more people gathered around the drum and we was up next.

the new guy got up and told me i'll be right back. he got up and started walking fast. we was watching him and wondering where he was going. he walked right over to the big trash can and lost it. he blew chunks, luch and all.

he came back and looked more relaxed. the guys were trying not to laugh. so was the recorders. the new guy smiled and looked around and said i hope you recorded that. and started laughing.

well to this day he not one bit nervous and now he shows off when the recorders come around. but we all remember that day.

I was at a dance this 4th and as i was walking back to my bench near the drum when i heard one of the singers say hey you almost took my ear off with your stick.
I started laughing a bit and then they started razzing the guy
I guess he was getting a bit into the song when he let go with the mother of all honor beats...
hahahahahahahah

I saw a recorder holding his tape recorder too close to a singers face, finally the singer got tired of it and slapped it out of his hand. That was cool.

We were at a powwow once and our lead singer was leaning on the stick just like Ken Dryden used to. He slipped off of the stick and bagged himself just as our name was called to start singing the next contest song. We were laughing so hard that we had to pass the song. Our lead singer was so embarrassed and mad because we didn't sing for a while. The arena director came over and asked us what happened and we told him. Well he couldn't stop laughing either mostly due to the face our lead singer was making. By the time we got home from the powwow, everybody had added their own twist to it and the story was bigger than life. In the end somebody said the arena director got mad at our lead singer and kicked him there. Real bunch of ndns eh.

You know how you have to stand up for the elders during their contests and have to take your hat off out of respect?! I did that and forgot that I was wearin' my cowboy strawhat and when the song was over I literally plopped back down on my chair and "wham" I smashed my hat flat!!! Damn,...talk about feelin' dumb,...then later that same pow-wow,these goofy guyz I was singin' with stick a small kids football under my a$$ and then I go and sit down and talka bout them laughin' it up.....ahhh...crazy a$$ $ingers anyway!!!
