Will The Real Whitetail Cree Please Stand Up
Should the original Whitetail Cree Singers reclaim the name and start using it again? They have been travelling as Poplar since a few of the younger singers took the name Whitetail Cree from the original members. Since that time the drum group (WTC) has totally disbanded and they have essentially ran the name into the ground. Personally, I feel that they should reclaim the name and try to bring it back to what it once was. So lets hear what you think, should they revert back to the Whitetail Cree name or should they stick it out with Poplar?

A few words...
I thought I would post a reply being that I am and still consider myself to be apart of Whitetail Cree. This group has a rich history, singers come and go, anyone who has been apart of a drum knows this and the drum will always remain as long as it still has singers around it maybe not at the moment but in time. I reflect on my experiences and I feel that the drum and singers whom I still consider my brothers have helped shape who I am today. I will always be grateful to the original members who welcomed me there in the first place. I grew up around WTC before it became WTC. WTC is like my home, and I know in my heart and hopefully to the rest of the singers, it's always place to come back to. The drum is what will always bring us together. Maybe not now, but in time. I believe everything happens for a reason and maybe the decision should be up to the singers....don't you think.

and another thing....
Poplar has been around for a few years now since Whitetail took a new direction with singers ,it's something the brothers had started and have stuck to, it's a family thing I think, whereas Whitetail was made up of many singers and over the years singers have come and gone. If you started up a group after leaving the group and then go back to it, it's kinda stupid to resort back to a name that was left in the first place, kinda lacks respect in many ways. Whitetail has had a different sound ever since, it's something different when it comes to the songs and style. The men that sing on Poplar made their decision, are you asking them to abandon everything they started so you can feel better about starting this thread?

I totally see what wagon_burner is saying, I also believe that the "young guns" that white tail hired to come help sing at a few powwows with them killed the white tail cree name. I alos believe that the brothers that started white tail cree should take the name back that they started and let slip out from their hands to a bunch of kids that only wanted the fame that came with the name.
And to say that there is a new and better sound from the "new crew of WTC" is a joke, the new young guns could never match up to what white tail cree was before they were corrupted.....just listen to the old schemitzun tapes...white tail cree would take the "new WTC" out back and show them boys how to sing. But what ever the original borthers of white tail cree decide to do they will always sounds better than WTC anyday. Rock on POPLAR Last edited by Phish; 12-06-2005 at 11:44 AM. |

Rock On Poplar!
I hear what your saying. Why would anyone go backwards, just because of a name?
Poplar has created a name for themselves as a respectful drum group. They are a great bunch of men and should continue to move forward as POPLAR SINGERS! Afterall it's not the name that makes a drum it's the singers! ROCK ON POPLAR!
