recorders at powwows

hey this is kind of a dull subject, but its a big part of singing and powwows. as for mee i got started recording from a fren. he was like, you go to all these cool powwows you should start recording. man! that just made to much sense. so i gave it a try and im pretty satisfied.

i dont go berserk and run to every drum and record. and i dont even keep all the songs i record. after a weekend ill have twenty songs and keep four or five. which is cool.

after i hear a nice one. im not shy and ill put some cash down for the singers.

sooo what do you all think. i know you all are out there cause i aint to only dude standing there.

Only with the advance permission of the drum group, and I feel you should always offer them something whether it be money or a gift.

Recorders are an integral part of Powwow. It shows how people appreciate your music...Sometimes it might get out of hand, but it's fun to go check out a group....So keep recording.....

some recorders are just plain rude in my opinion. elbowing their way in, knocking over your stuff, stepping on your things, i had one push over my one year daughter to get to the drum to record and all he did was just look at my girl and keep recording - i'm a drummers' wife who no longer sits anywhere near ANY drums because of them. besides i didn't come to see literally someone's azz in my face.

i see no problem with it if you are not like some of these people and if you see or know someone like that tell me "hey watch what you're doing" - hey my hubby records the other drums and his own - he keeps him distance or gives his recorder who is on the "inside."

I used to want to record every song at a powwow. Now I could care less. Possibly because I didnt have money to buy CDs. Im not big on taping now. I like video taping because i like to SEE the guys singing. Plus sometimes their antics are hilarious. If a drum is selling CDs at a reasonable price I will buy them.

when i did record, i had a boom mic. nothing professional. maybe you've seen me, once I had a wooden dowel, once a squeegie handle, once an adjustable music stand. Very ghetto. No pushing and shoving. Take your turn, sometimes your in the front, sometimes your in the back. Shoot, some drums had a few rows around them 2 songs before their turn to sing!

theres no real etiquette for recorders other than ndn rules. which aint much. i purposely wont sit by a nice drum for that very reason. ill walk around instead of having somebodys butt in my face. sooo here lies the question. whats a powwow watcher to do? other that stringing up a barrier or building some kind of fort from powwow chairs...

i aint a pro like some guys. my little sony is about as far as ill go. and soo far i managed to avoid the evil eye from the ladies. overall i think im doing ok.... i dunno though..

If Recorders "Bum Rush" your spot.....The Death Stare usually works pretty good to eliminate any possible Stampedes....

Some classic Stares.......Jr, Pete, & Crow.....LOL!

during a contest you know the drum judges are coming from the previous drum. but do they leave room for them..? haha same deal verytime.. like they dont know or something...

oh and when a drum gets whistled, or about to, they wont make a way for the person. man thats cheap!!! usually the AD has to say something.... hola, get outta the way folks..

I like to think of myself as a cerebral recorder. I plan out in advance who I'm going to record on the go-rounds so I can get a good spot without running like a maniac and destroying everything in my path.

Serial recorder, now that's funny. I was just laughing when I read this one. Next he will be killin some duct tape and destroying electrical chords.

i like that serial recorder...record more than three drums in a row you're a serial recorder you know.

dang but some of the ppl around the drum don't even HAVE a RECORDER!! now that's off - a bunch of guys (mostly) standing around watching another group of guys sing. then there's the chicks who stand around. its just another "snaggy pants" fest...
