The “Cattail” and “Yankton” doll collections
Story & Photos by Nick Vander Puy
Hayward, Wisconsin (NFIC) Ramona Morrow reaches up to the hearth at their Native Art Store in Hayward, Wisconsin, and takes down a traditional doll from the “Yankton” collection. Morrow herself is part Yankton Sioux and Lac Courte Oreilles Ojibwe. The doll is made from beaded buckskin, with delicate beadwork, and shows real human hair. Morrow says, “I get people who donate their hair to me, so I can use them on dolls.” |
