Calif. redistricting proposal takes tribal cash
By Juliet Williams
Sacramento, California (AP) A casino-operating tribe from Southern California has donated $45,000 to a proposed November ballot initiative supported by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who campaigned on a promise not to accept donations from groups that negotiate contracts with the governor’s office. The redistricting measure would redraw California’s political boundaries to make state legislative seats more competitive, if it makes the ballot and voters approve. It is backed by California Voters First, a coalition of California Common Cause, the AARP and the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce. |
