Bureau of Indian Affairs rejects 2 La. tribes
Houma, Louisiana (AP)
Two Native American tribes in southern Louisiana have been told they don’t meet federal requirements for recognition. But leaders of the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe and the Biloxi-Chitimacha Confederation of Muskogees said they now know how to focus their requests to the Bureau of Indian Affairs to achieve federal recognition, which can bring money, education grants, housing opportunities and other government aid. |
