Obama in Crow Country
today Obama is hosting a rally at the Apsaalooke Veteran's Park in Crow Agency, MT!
obama is the very first presidential contender to visit the Crow Rez... Lady Bird Johnson visited the rez in the 60's when she was campaigning for her husband. and just last week the news announced that FINALLY... the Crows & the Siouxs agree on something: 5/14/08 Obama Endorsed by Crow Nation and Fort Peck Tribes Body: HELENA, MT – The Obama campaign announced today the endorsements of the Crow Nation and the Assiniboine and Sioux Tribes of the Ft. Peck Reservation. Tribal leaders cited Sen. Obama’s commitment to Indian Country and to the issues facing its residents. Sen. Obama’s leadership qualities and commitment to issues of importance to Indian country distinguish him from his opponents” said Chairman A.T. Stafne of the Ft. Peck Tribes“ Our twelve voting members in the Tribal Council passed this endorsement resolution unanimously. I was personally impressed with his commitment to a true government-to-government relationship and his promise to appoint a Native American policy advisor in his White House.” “Senator Obama understands the challenges facing Native Americans in Montana,” said Crow Nation Chairman Carl Venne. “His record as a US Senator shows that he cares about Indian communities. He respects Indian sovereignty and is a strong advocate for Indian healthcare and education. awesomeness!

When I heard that Senator Obama would be making an appearance in Crow I was like..."NO HE'S NOT!" LoL...how refreshing to actually have a candidate willing to make the trip to spend a little time with us.

Obama has consistently said he intended to visit with Native America, go to their communities, see the people, and understand our needs.
This is the first time in a long time, I have seen this many Native people across the country inspired by such a down-to-earth personality. I think he brings the greatest chance for hope, reconciliation and opportunity that I have seen in my lifetime. And I am glad to see that he went to Crow Country and not some suit coat and wingtip Native convention to make his speech. It's about time the politicians paid attention to "The People." Not that Indian politicians don't have their time and place. It was just great seeing all the familiar faces at an event that will be a once in a lifetime to remember. |
