Silent auction supports talented at-risk youth
Tucson, Arizona (ICC)
The music of Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai and a silent auction featuring artwork by many of Tucson’s best-known artists were the focus of the annual ArtWORKS Academy Benefit on April 25, at the Tucson Museum of Art. ArtWORKS Academy is Tucson’s only alternative high school for at-risk teens talented in the visual arts. Students have the opportunity to work with professional visual artists while completing their requirements for graduation. Founded in 1999, ArtWORKS Academy is a unique partnership between the Tucson Unified School District, Tucson Pima Arts Council and the Tucson Museum of Art. Recent graduates of ArtWorks have won scholarships to, and are currently attending, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the prestigious California College of the Arts in San Francisco. |
