Napolitano: Wait on renaming other ‘squaw’ sites
Phonix, Arizona (AP)
Gov. Janet Napolitano says she wants a federal commission to act on the renaming of former Squaw Peak in Phoenix to honor Army soldier Lori Piestewa before she presses for renaming other Arizona sites that include “squaw” in their names. The state renamed the peak five years ago and the U.S. Board of Geographic Names is expected to decide soon whether to change the name on maps and other federal publications. |
