no permit.... no feathers

the guy wants to cry entrapment but who was it that was trading feathers like bublegum cards?
bottom line is; theres a straight forward process for getting a permit and feathers. some people duck it and take their chances. if ya do......then this is the chance you take. and this guy got off light

Carry your proof to powwows

I feel sorry for the guy, but apparently he was dealing in feathers without federal permission, and that erases my feeling. Winddancer claimed to be Native American, I understand, but he could not prove it in court, I read. There have been other people, proven Native Americans, who were convicted of charges in connection with eagle feathers. So we are all under federal scrutiny. I have danced with, and listened to Winddancer at a powwow. He even gave me a free CD of his flute music. We as Native American dancers, vendors, traders, must be careful in the presentation of our regalia, craft, and claim to our ancestry. Even as crappy as it sounds, we should carry our documentation with us to powwows and festivals. I am a member of a federal tribe, but I always carry my federal tribal card and fedeal permission (Atlanta, GA and Denver, CO) for the feathers that I use. Only once did a state trooper, invited to a powwow, looked me over pretty good. I didn't know if he was just admiring my regalia or trying to find something to question me about. I hope that never happens, but if it happens, I have some proof, at least. Walk easy and take care.
