Navajo lawmakers table proposed tribal Superfund law
Albuquerque, New Mexico (AP)
A bill in the Navajo Nation Council that would have created a tribal Superfund law has been tabled. Tribal lawmakers voted to table the measure after questions arose about how federal and state entities would be involved. The proposed law would have allowed Navajo officials to monitor and remove all hazardous substances, pollutants and contaminants on the 27,000 square-mile reservation that could endanger the health and safety of residents. |
