Supreme Court hears oral arguments in Indian gaming case
By David Fischer
Tallahassee, Florida (AP) Gov. Charlie Crist violated the Florida Constitution when he agreed with the Seminole Indian tribe to expand gambling in the state, an attorney for the Florida House told the state Supreme Court on late January. Crist and the tribe signed an agreement in November of 07 that allows for Vegas-style slots and games such as blackjack and baccarat at its seven Florida casinos. Attorney Jon Mills, a former House speaker, said the state’s compact with the tribe sets policy and changes existing state laws, which is a power held by the Legislature. |
