National Center for Family Literacy unveils plans for $515,000
Louisville, Kentucky (AP)
The Louisville-based National Center for Family Literacy says it plans to use a $515,000 grant to fund projects aimed at improving reading and writing skills among children, American Indians and immigrants. The center received the grant from the Dollar General foundation as part of more than $4.5 million the Goodlettsville, Tenn., foundation awarded to nonprofit organizations for literacy programs this year. Three of the projects being funded include an early literacy initiative for families, an adult reading initiative for American Indians and a literacy program for immigrant families. The initiative targets parents and children from first grade until high school. |
