Post Lawyers are nicer than sharks

Pentagon shamefully backed away from the very reasonable condemnation of the US law firms representing Guantanamo detainees. American lawyers undo the injustices inflicted by the American soldiers who fight and die in Afghanistan. Only a handful out of the thousands of detainees was rendered from Afghanistan to Guantanamo; they are not a random crowd. Many of them are not guilty beyond the basic affiliation with Taliban, but guilt of others could not be proven. What evidence of terrorist activity, acceptable in the court of law, could be found in Afghanistan? In the absence of documents or wiretaps, evidence is reduced to testimonies of dubious witnesses.

The image of selfless American attorneys - people of great moral integrity - engaged in pro bono defense of Afghan peasants is hilarious. In the pro bono affair, leftist lawyers sabotage the American war effort, and other attorneys shamelessly use it for self-promotion.

I'm confused for the 299,000,000 sounds like the population of the USA. I don't see how there could be 299,000,000 enemies in North America. Explain.

Demographics are always fun. There are approx 340 million people that make up North America (assuming your definition of North America is limited to the US and Canada).

In Canada 1.9% of the population are single origin First Nations - counting those who are of multiple tribes (ndn but ndn from more than one tribe) - adds another 3.3%. Part Aboriginal (whether ndn and white, ndn and Asian or whatever) adds another 2.7% for a total of 7.9% of the Canadian population. Since I am unfamiliar with any other oddities in counting Canadian population by race I have to be satisfied with this rough figure. The Canadian population being 33 million folks (give or take) that means roughly 30 million are not First Nations, nor a child from more than one First Nation nor have any family ties to a First Nations citizen.

The good ol' US of A has 290 million people as of the last census. Hawaii is technically not in North America but since we're only talking about a little over a million people we'll include them so it's easier to get comparison numbers. The US has (between those declaring only one tribe - .9% and those who claim ndn and another race - .6% and those of hispanic origin that identify as ndn or who listed ndn and "other unspecified" - 6%) roughly 7.5% population that are indigenious, aboriginal, First Nation or whatever other label you want to designate as descended from someone who was here when Chris made a wrong turn and we found him.

Here is a neat little table what like they taught us to make in grah-joo-it skool in the daze before 'puters:

..........Population.....Aggragate %.....Indigenous Population.....Immigrant Population
US........ 290,000,000..... 7.5%............... 21,750,000 .............. 268,250,000

Canada..... 33,000,000..... 7.9%............... 2,607,000............ 30,393,000

Total..... 323,000,000........................... 24,357,000............... 298,643,000

So the way I sees it (tongue firmly planted in cheek) is that roughly 299 K enemy noncombatants need to get outta the pool.

The other 24 million have a heck of a lot of work to do cleaning up the place!

When you grow up on the East coast of Fla., sometimes you with sharks while they pass under your board. I've met lawyers and I'll take a shark every time. At least they don't pretend to be anything other than what they are.
