POW WOW BRINGS BIG BUCKS TO CITY & STATE

Press Release
Gathering of Nations

In a recent survey conducted by the Albuquerque Hispano Chamber of Commerce, it was determined that the 2006 Gathering of Nations Powwow generated an economic impact of more than thirty-five million dollars to the City of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

The Hispano Chamber of Commerce was set up April 28th & 29th at the event, where they conducted a survey. Questions such as: Name, City/State, Hotel, Number of people traveling together, and number of days spent in Albuquerque were asked. The random sample represented one percent of the attendance (111,650). Those from out of state represented more than 83 percent of the attendees. It was determined that 2,259 room nights were utilized by powwow goers.

In an unofficial survey it was determined that another fifteen million dollars impacted the rest of the state of New Mexico during that same time period, as a considerable number of people traveled to the event by automobile. Thus doing such things as touring New Mexico sites, hotels, and the purchase of food & gas.

This survey demonstrates that the Gathering of Nations Powwow is among the largest annual festivals in the United States.
