uNFORTUNATELY THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO FALL FOR THIS CRA P.

I had a guy call me about a free $5000 loan from the government. He verified my name ph# and address (which anyone can get) i knew it was fake from the get go but decided to stay on the line and see what i can do to mess with him.

He reads off my names as Michael but spells it michele, so i say ok, then he reads my street which is a terrace and abbreviated TERR so he says 'TERR', so I say ok, he reads my zip code as 4 numbers, being in nj my zip starts with a '0' so i say ok again, he than says he needs to verify my ss# and bank acct info. thats when i started my tirade.

i told him if he was calling on behalf of MY government, THEY would already have more information than i could give them.

He said they had to do a direct deposit, so i told them that the government would never do a direct deposit, they send checks becuase a certain percentage of checks get returned or lost and forgotten about so the government gets to keep THAT money.

I told him that if he was calling on behalf of MY government he should know that there are 5 digits in the zip code, not 4.

all the time he keeps trying to convince me that he is just trying to get me the money.

i told him to send me some forms and i would gladly fill them oout (right!)

finally he says "OK ILL SEND YOU YOUR MONEY!" and hangs up on me.

I could hear many eastern sounding people on phones in the background and didnt think of it until later to ask what time it was or to just make up a ss# and bank # to see what comes next.

if it was my cell i could have recorded it.

Mwaha. I like that story.

My thing with this is exactly what it says in the article: people who aren't necessarily stupid, but just naive, or who get totally thrown off guard in a situation like this, may get trapped. Cynics like you and me wouldn't fall for something like this, but people who are nicer than me might. :3

I read about an elder lady (locally) getting scammed out of thousands of $$ right before Christmas!! I guess it was some guy claiming to be her nephew & he needed money immediately. He must've been an aweful good liar!! Poor lady! Thanks for sharing this story...very important to make everybody aware of the different scams going on these days.
