Native Casting Call to be held at Chickahominy Pow-wow, Sept 24
Casting Call for Virginia Indians, men and women of all ages.
Photographer Robert Llewellyn and writer Avery Chenoweth are looking for Virginia Indians interested in taking part in there upcoming book about Jamestown. The Jamestown book is the story of how three cultures came together in Virginia, and through they way they did things--often with tragic consequences--they created the American culture, which had not existed before that era. The book will tell the story of how these cultures came together, and how the consequences are still playing out in our society today. Jamestown will then emerge as the birth place of American identity. Robert Llewellyn is a photographer with more than 30 books of his photography in print. His titles include, Upland Virginia, Williamsburg, Jamestown, Yorktown: America's Historic Triangle, and Albemarle: A Story of Landscape and American Identity. Avery Chenoweth is a Charlottesville writer whose novel-in-stories, Wingtips, was short listed for the Library of Virginian Fiction Prize and nominated for the Sue Kaufman prize. He has written for a number of national magazines including Harper's, Spy, Lingua Franca, and The New York Times Magazine. The casting call will take place at the Chickahominy Powwow on September 24th. It's a plus if you own Eastern Woodland Indian regalia! If you have any questions regarding the casting call please contact Emily Taylor at 804.240.3339. Emily P. Taylor emilyptaylor@juno.com 804.240.3339 American Society of Media Photographers

I know the scenario all too well! Steven Segall had a cattle call here in Los Angeles and what a joke it was. I think Blackstone showed up and a lot of dancers. When the cattle call time came, each and every dancer and singer along with the Hollywood Indians lined up. Steven Segall came and sneered at all the greasy Indians with an air of dismissal. What he actually did was choose all of the Hollywood Indians with an exception of two or three authentic natives. I think Joetta All Runner was one of the authentic natives picked. Oh, I can't forget Miss Norma Roach's daughter was also picked in her orange buckskin.
