Braves take Piestewa championship

The opening ceremonies of the Native American Games were held on Thursday July 14, and the Braves took part. Each participant was given T-shirts for their participation and had the opportunity to meet the family of Lori Piestewa. The Braves participated in the age group for 15 & 16 and under, where there were five teams age 15 and three teams for 16-year-olds. The first game the Braves played was on Friday at 9 p.m. against the Northern Arizona Defenders of Yavapai. The Braves won and played on Saturday, July16 at 11 a.m. against the Yaqui Warriors, where they lost by four. On Sunday, July 17, at 10 a.m. where they played Flagstaff - Navajo and won. At noon, on the same day, the Braves played and defeated the Warriors Yaqui, earning a spot in the championship game. In the title game, the Braves won by a final score of 47-41. In the awards ceremony, the Braves received their gold medals, after coming back with strong wins back up from the losers bracket.
