Suspicious Object Closes Bridge

Akwesasne police and RCMP are investigating a “suspicious object” found
under the Seaway International Bridge Friday which forced the span’s closure for
about 45 minutes.

“It was spotted by maintenance. It was on the ground on the island,” said
Hendrick Saaltink, the bridge’s general manager, who was told of the discovery
while in Ottawa.


The object was removed from its location by Akwesasne police, who are being
assisted by the Mounties, Saaltink said.

“We’ll hear back in a few days,” he said of the probe.

Other than describing the object as “small” Saaltink has no other details of
the find, as of late Friday evening.

Asked if this type of occurrence was unusual, he said: “I’d say so.”

As a precaution, the bridge was closed and traffic turned away by police at
both approaches.

“We closed the bridge to inspect for other devices,” he said.

That bridge is just plain scary to begin and the smell of 'cabbage' one the cornwall side is scarier..!!!(j/k) goot thing somebody noticed it though.
