FBI field office in charge of Red Lake investigation
Monday, May 2, 2005

An FBI field office known for its high-profile Indian Country investigations has another one on its plate -- the March 21, 2005, deadly shootings on the Red Lake Reservation in Minnesota.

The 130-agent field office in Minneapolis is leading the investigation into the shootings. Michael Tabman, a former Virginia cop and hostage negotiator, says the probe has stirred strong emotions on the reservation and among FBI agents.

"Everyone up there feels for the families, they feel for the victims, and they feel for the community," he tells The St. Paul Pioneer Press.

The Minneapolis office is notorious for its investigations into imprisoned activist Leonard Peltier, the murder of Anna Mae Pictou-Aquash and a number of unsolved deaths and crimes on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.
