Hello, i am a white girl from holland. I first of all want to say sorry for what the white people did to al of the American Indians. There isn't a day going by without me thinking of how i can maybe help. But i can't think of anything. I just want to do anything, if i was rich i would buy all the land in america and give it back to the red people. But i am not rich so that is not an option. Does anyone have an idea? I will do anything whitin my power to help.

Stop Apologizing
You didn't do what you're apologizing for, and since you're still in Europe, what's the likelihood that your ancestors did it?
Some of us are tired of being victims, and every time someone insists on apologizing for what happened, we're once again revictimized. Want to help? Encourage your government to cut off diplomatic ties with any U.S. or Canadian politician that opposes tribal sovereignty.

yeah!
I don't know what to say. I am just very sad about how things are, not only in america, but in the whole world. Most people i know, don't care about anything but money. It's hopeless. But i guess it is just a matter of time before people will see. I hope so.

PCPowerCat,
Although I admire your kind heart, your sympathy, and your empathy for the wrongs committed against "Red People", "Original People," "Aboriginal People," "American Indians," "Native Americans" or "NDNs," depending on what label you are comfortable with, there is very little that you can do to "correct," what has happened in the past. There is no need to apologize for something you had no control over or involvement with. However, I understand your desire to want to help out. That is a very basic human quality, and a very good one to cherish. My best suggestion, is to educate yourself. One of the most difficult situations NDN people face today, is that there are so many stereotypes and mis-understandings about NDN people, the truth frequently gets lost. The best way to "correct" this situation is the become educated. I might first suggest that you learn about some of the truth concerning NDN Culture. There are many great books available for beginners like yourself, that could give you a quality overall picture. Try locating a book titled: "The Cultures of Native North America," 2000, Christian F. Feest General Editor, printed by Konemann (ISBN 3-8290-2985-3) Then you might want to try learning the truth about NDN history as it relates to interaction with the U.S. Government by reading a book titled: "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee, An Indian History of the American West," 1970, by Dee Brown, printed by Holt, Rinehart, & Winston, Inc., New York City, New York. Lastly, one of the important things to consider, is that NDN people are not extinct. Although many museums give that impression because their cultural exhibits seem to stop around the 1900 time period, and most of the films from Hollywood only show NDN people in a "historical" setting. Few of them show NDN people in contemporary settings. Try finding good contemporary films such as "Smoke Signals." The best way for you to help NDN people is to become educated. Learn and pass it on to others. Good Luck, Historian P.S. A good source for books and films is a company called, Written Heritage P.O. Box 1390 Folsom, Louisiana 70437 http://www.writtenheritage.com
