Peter MacDonald Eat Your Heart Out!
This is good. Which tribal officials and the good business folks in Cherokee who line their pockets will benefit from this monstrosity? Will it even amount to anything? That Sequoyah Birthplace Museum is the most pathetic site ever, and the Friends of Sequoyah, who oversee it, will benefit more than the Eastern Band will.

Greetings, posters... I'm a grandson of two grandparents who lived up in the mountains above the town of Boone (North Carolina)... I am also guessing that I have Cherokee/Tsali ancestors... While I do (at least) consider myself a friend and ally of progressive native folk? So, every since I've read and heard about this dream and scheme of bailing out cash strapped nations by having casinos on their reservation lands, first I thought back to that parody of the west--F TROOP--which only goes to show that some of everybody watches television, and --second-- I said to myself, "they've got to be kidding...!" But--obviously-- the chiefs and tribal councils aren't-! Y'see, I'm a metro detroit activist, and I fought against the idea of bringing casinos here, off the rez... Thing is: Folks are going to do what they--not us--feel and think is in their self interest--then what may also benefit their people... While I ask you as well: How are you also striving to perserve and protect the heritage of importance and relevance to you? This inquiring mind would like to know... P. S. To the contributor who has Redd Foxx on their post? Holler back! ctj527@hotmail.com Take care... Later... Last edited by ctj; 09-03-2004 at 09:33 AM. |

The point wasn't to preserve heritage. It was however asking a question that continues to go unanswered. I can say that it would be nice to have something culturally meaningful at that museum site. Most of it's just kitsch.
I have serious doubts that this resort will benefit anybody other than the EBCI's political elite.
