I need to be pointed in the right direction on how to trace my Indian heritage and get it documented. I've searched web sites and I'm only getting more confused. My great grand parents were full cherokee as was my grandfather. I've always had this thing inside me pulling me toward my Indian heritage and now I'm finally acting on it. (better late than never.. right?) Everytime I brought it up to my friends or family they would tell me it will be a losing battle, but now, I am VERY DETERMINED!!!! So if anyone out there can help me in anyway, I will appreciate sooooooo much... Thanks

Seriously, your barking up the wrong tree if you want or need real help from any of us. You really need your family to help you out on this. There most likely "is" a reason why they won't discuss their native blood, if there is indeed any to be found... have their full names, birthdate and birthplace, date of death and then go talk to the clerics of both of the cherokee nations and see if they were recognized by either nation. If they were'nt .. then yeah , you're probably fighting a losing battle..sorry.

This is all for all the people that is showing hatred and dis for me simply cuz I have white blood in me. I can't help that my grandfather married a white woman as did my mother marry a white man. I had no control over that, just like I had no control over the blacks being brought here against their will. I know what I am and who I am. Blackbear's advise is probably the best you're going to get. You need to talk with your family and see what they know cuz that will be your biggest help.
Yes. you didn't have any say in the matter when it came to your relatives and who they married, but you are a product of that union and maybe you should respect that they chose a different path.

I am grateful for blackbear's advise. I do have all the info, unfortunately I don't have any family members to talk to or I would. I only wanted to find out where to take my info to. I wonder if it will be even worth the effort. .. Thanks
