just curious how many people still get insults thrown at them because their native. and i'm not talking kids saying them necessarily, i mean adults that still do crap like this and think it's funny.

That has happened to me sometimes if I am walking down the street here in NYC. Lots of times I get taken for hispanic, but if I have on a beaded barrette or something sometimes idiots say or do something ignorant, like trying to make a woo woo sound or saying stupid things. I am glad I am not them, it would be too embarrassing to be so foolish. But the strange thing is that it has happened to me at powwows. I used to help one of my sisters with her craft booth, and you would not believe the offensive (usually not intentionally) questions and comments people would make. I could tell you stories. For example, a kid and his parents were looking at some birch bark work and as they walked a way he gave us a dirty look and said, you kill trees! Or people ask if we still live in tipis or why we don't all look the same. Now I dance, and once at Schemitzun this non-Native (claimed to be part NDN) was giving me a hard time and said it was selfish of us to reserve our spaces on the bleachers with blankets--and she kept trying to touch my fan. I ended up going to the arena director.

I used to work in a Greek restaurant and the owners made cracks about indians and say some stupid remark to them and they made the woo woo cries thats kinda sick too and one of them called me a white indian too and I cussed him out too for saying that and I told him don't call me a white indian again. they egged it on to the day I quit.

Thats what lets us know were are true NDNs, Those wannabe don't have to endure that. We Have that Brown skin so we have to represent. I beat someones @$$ if they come at me wrong. Keep It NDN.

wPD that's workplace harrassment... you shoulda sued.. I woulda.. it's the language folks like that know best.

If folks are saying insults to be mean.. then I give them that snotty up and down lookover and insult back like...' someone with obvious personality flaws such as yourself thinks he's got something to insult me with? " big words scare ignorant people you know.

Just last week I stopped in a town in PA for work and everyone that was outside just stopped and stared on the way out I got lots of fingers and obscenaties thrown at me. There were nazi flags and kkk confederate flags all over the place.

The one time that I was called a squaw in jr. high, I beat the boy up in the hallway, the principle came and pulled me off of him, lol...
As an adult, one time a Hispanic lady, made a rascist comment about our people, we got into a heated argument, but it was really surprising to me to see how rascist she was against Natives, that was about 20 years ago.

Well, you working there.. that's the first thing.. and then they made racial slurs at you even if it was'nt about your race..but overall, if they are creating an unpleasant work experience that is harrassment.. you'd be surprised what is all defined under workplace harrassment. The only thing i can recall at this moment, and this is because I have been fortunate enough to not have run into so many of these racist jerks, is some new age guy who was buying crytals at the shop I worked at and I asked him what they were for .. and as it dawned on me what he was he turned and said..he said he was wiccan and then looked me straight in the eye and said, "you should know that though, you're indian are'nt you?" I did my best not to go off since I was actually working.. but informed him quite pointedly that I was Tuscarora and Longhouse is NOT Wiccan nor is any other native american religion or beliefs.
