Drive-by shootings targed Red Lake law enforcement
Wednesday, January 14, 2004

The FBI and local police are investigating a series of drive-by shootings that targeted law enforcement personnel on the Red Lake Reservation in Minnesota.

According to the the FBI, shots were fired at six residences early Saturday. Shots were also fired at the jail and police department.

The Red Lake Reservation has been plagued by gang violence, according to federal authorities.

:( ... all that gang stuff is really sad! it is another form of genocide, i wish these kids get a grip and realize what this is doing to our nation.

Alot of the rez's are in deep sh.., with gang influences now. Minnesota and South Dakota I know for sure. What can the community do if our tribal leaders are afraid or unwilling to take any steps to stop gang violence? There has been deaths where I live and my family has been touched by this violence. How can it be stopped?!

That is so sad. Redlake is a beautiful rez. Up to the people there to ban together and make a stand against this way of life. Drive by shootings, drug rings, high ratings of alcohol. Something is obviously lacking within our people. They are my Ojibway people there too in Redlake and I feel for them all.
