Since my dad's people are Scots, I can say that in traditional Scottish culture, the ONLY persons permitted to wear eagle feathers are the Chieftans of the Clans. Spouses of Clan Chieftans, not any of the other officials, nor the members of a Clan are not permitted to wear eage feathers or parts.

You missed the point entirely. Scottish was brought up as one example, it's what Bum knew about so he used that. Why not ask Stephano or other cultures what eagle feathers mean to them or how they were used? And not all the indian nations even hold eagles in the same regards.. most yes, but not all. We have different ways of obtaining them both in history and now. Some have to have a rite of passage to get them and some don't.

Alot of people here are generalizing and making assumptions and getting nowhere in your arguments other than to sound angry even when it is'nt part of the topic.

Blackbear:

What is being discussed at hand is that white people such as Ccrock himself who have the guts to come on here and state they know it all by taking stuff just from a crazy book and incorporating that into their story that they know what traditional dancing is. We are not discussing scottish people here, we are solely discussin the NON right of passage that many white people take to dance in our powwow circle.

I do not think that Burbs and Jinglin Chica misunderstood or missed the point there, it was plain and clear that you are only discussing other cultures when at hand the discussion here is solely how the native american culture is once again disrespected by white people. How they think one day they wake up and say "Oh i think i'll be indian today because I feel it in my heart" and then in turn take a book such as Scott evans and use that as a GUIDANCE to learn our powwow ways. Unlike many well known dancers, who have taken the "right of passage" to dance in that circle and wear those feathers, now that is the right way, the right way IS DEFINETLY NOT following a book as guidance and after that thinking white people have EVERY SOLE right to dance our dances.

Now the reason for bringing up the part of the scottish is because of some blanket statement posts though and the accusations of using eagle feathers when the guy never once said he even used them. I"m not defending his dancing, just saying that folks are getting jumpy and climbing down throats here for crimes not yet commited or admitted to. And then this guy stephano says NA are not the only one's that cherish thier eagles or use their feathers and hold them in high regard and he get's pounced on... did he say he danced? Did he say he was dressing native american and using eagle feathers???? So why was he pounced on? But everyone is so on the defensive here that they are'nt arguing or discussing intelligently anymore and just busting the head of anyone that sounds like..."SOUNDS LIKE" they are disagreeing with them.

Since its part of his Irish culture - then perhaps he should dance or what ever with the eagle feathers in Ireland and leave the Powwow dancing and traditions taking place in USA to us NDN's.

But it was'nt mentioned in the thread.. how is anyone else supposed to know that till you tell them? (sigh) Without us knowing this kinda thing.. it looks like some kind of insane ranting for no reason. You want to call someone out , then state it flat out.

JHC---this thread just needs to be closed that white wanting to be indian thread raised from the dead one more time then...
