Memorial to Paul Eddy
On Tuesday, Aug 29, 2006, our good friend, Paul Eddy lost his battle with lung cancer. Paul brought us (venders, dancers, drummers, singers and the general public) together twice a year to join him and his "little wife", Toadie and their son, Ryan to celebrate Native Dancing and Culture.
He called his powwow Okiciyapo, "to work together". He strived to present to the public a true and honest approach to Native powwows. He was from the Yankton Reservation in South Dakota but lived in the Atlanta area. We will greatly miss this Dakota man and his dedication to his family and culture. The fall Powwow, October 7, 8 2006 will be held as usual. There will be a memorial for Paul at the powwow grounds Friday evening October 6, 7:30pm. For more info contact www.vitwind.com. Quote:
I am so SAD. I was just talking about Paul YESTERDAY, with a fellow who was going to try and get me in contact with Paul again. If anyone knows how I can reach them, I have some stories I'd like to share with them, as well as some pictures. I met Paul back in 1993, when our group from Oglala Lakota College traveled to Lawrenceville for the powwow. He and his group of people treated us like royalty, but they still respected our humanity. They taught us as much as they learned from us. It was one of the best trips I have ever taken, and I remember it like it was yesterday. I made some friendships that have lasted and grown through the years from that trip, and we all owe it to Paul Eddy. Such a gentle, smart, and respectful man who loved to laugh. I wish everyone who reads this gets the opportunity to meet someone just like Paul Eddy, and when you do, cherish them, and DON"T lose contact with them. I'm sad for the family, but also for me, because I didn't keep in contact with Paul like I needed to. Thanks for the tremendous memories, Paul....save a place for me and my powwow chair next to you, huh? |

You can contact Ryan, his son and his wife, Toadie at the web site www.vitwind.com.
He donated his body to the Ga Medical College of GA (he was thinking of a good friend of his who might be needing a kidney soon...just like Paul to give even in death). His memorial will be Oct 6 at the Gwinnett County Fairgrounds, 7:30pm. Come and share with us all. |
