I still miss my grandma
A year ago today my grandma, Billie Jean Allen, passed away. I did my crying yesterday in church, but still I wanted to write something for her. This woman, I thought, was the prototype to every Marvel Super Hero. She was invincible in all my memories. One of my favorite, was telling jokes so much that she'd say, "ooh I you know my bladder can't take you actin' crazy!" So today, I will try to remember her laughing. When I want to call her and clown the driver in front of me, I'll save my minutes and know she's already cracking up.
Love you forever Grandma.

Grandmas are da bomb! I still tell others about my grandmother. The things she taught me to make me who I am. The smell of her kitchen (grandmas are the best cooks!). The rooster she had in the back yard.lol
This past Mother's Day, I took flowers to the women who were important in my life. My mother, aunt and grandmother. (They have all crossed over). Yep, I still think of my grandma. I know this is gonna be hard to believe, but JD is a grandpa!!! You will never forget your grandma. That's life. Remember the good things you had, and when you become a grandma, you can be jusss like her! Jim

Ooh you made me laugh! I was terrified of Grandma until I was sixteen. Suddenly she stopped suspecting me at every turn when something was broken, missing, or cracked (why, because I usually did it as a child!) If I could be half the grandma she is to me, my grandkids will have tons of adventures! Thanks again.

Best word my grandma said to me...
"Show humility wherever you go and be respectful to others." Words to live by. They have carried me to alot of places and have met some good people.

Your post is such a sweet way to remember her. I do something for my Grandma every year, too. I use to cry every year but the last few years it has been such a comfort to dedicate that time to her. ((((homalosa))))

I too miss someone my momma passed away 10yrs ago this july, she was a awesome mom never a harsh word "unless I was being a brat" never struck me, my scolding was a light shoosh and a low wave of her hand. She was always telling me what was expected of me as a woman, and a future wife and mother. I try not to cry for her not with her being gone this long I dont want to temp her to leave , but I do on occ like my childrens birthdays knowing they never knew this wonderfull woman, and when I see her in them from time to time wth the little things they do that i remember her doing. She was proud to be Indian and told me this is who you are and to always be proud.

My heart pours out to you in your grief, but ya know @ least you can say you knew her, I lost my mom when she was only 51 years old, my daughter was only 4 years old and hardly remembers her, but she remembers that my mom always told her not to eat candy or drink pop too much, it would ruin her pretty teeth! That was yesterday, today she can't get enough of them some times. My mom was one of very skilled native women that I remember, she could cut deer meat, fillet fish in no time, dig roots, pick huckleberries, carry a baby on her back, and feed a toddler at the same time!!!! Any my point is although she didn't all these things at the same time, I remember her for her skills that were etched in her brain since she was a very young girl, that I was supposed to learn also to pass down to my daughter, but noooooooo, it's Mickey D's, DQ's, Pizza Hut, and root beer!! No wonder there's a lot of illnesses going around with our Tribes, it's the fast food itis!!!!

It's good to remember your grandmother like this. It got me thinking of my own grandma, Madge Stabber Weston...or as my Grandpa used to call her, it a VERY loud voice..."Madge Stabber The Great" . I don't know where that came from.
I remember, ten years after she passed on (omg..10 years already) so many things about her. How small she was, and how you could still that pretty young girl in her well lined face. I remember how she used to hold back her laugh with her hand, and how tryin to laugh softly, instead she sounded like paper tearing....I can still hear that sound when my oldest son laughs! But for some reason I remember most of all the way I felt when I was with her. When I hear old Elvis songs, or Christy Lane songs...or any gospel music, I remember how she would kinda whistle along softly, and how I always just liked to look at her, even when I was a little bitty girl. What was I looking at? What was I noticing? Did that little tiny girl know how much she would miss her Grandma one day, and took a moment of stillness, or love and gratitude, to soak up and store away for the lonely days? I remember how she smelled... |

Oh that was beautiful, Homolosa! I feel the tears welling up in my eyes. You were blessed to have known your grandmother and have so many wonderful memories. My grandmother crossed over many years before I was born. All I have are pictures of her and the stories my mother told me. But, guess what? I look at her picture and I see a mirror reflection of myself!
