Yes, keep them in your prayers. He had four daughters I believe and he was young himself. From what I understand funeral services will be on wednesday but I'll wait for all the info to be verified and posted.

His passing brought sorrow to many and I will say a prayer for his family. Perry was young man. He was a composer of beautiful powwow songs. He was also a active in the Native American Church and I loved to hear him sing in the tipi especially early in the morning hours. In my heart, I know the eagles came to take him home to our creator.

Perry's Obituary from Ponca Paper

Perry Lee Botone Jr.

Perry Lee Botone Jr., lifelong Red Rock resident, passed from this life on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. He was 34.

A wake service was held from 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 25, to 6 a.m. Wednesday at Otoe-Missouria Cultural Center with Steven Littlecook overseeing the service. The traditional funeral feast was held at noon Wednesday at Otoe-Missouria Cultural Center. A committal service will be at 2 p.m. at Otoe-Missouria Tribal Cemetery with Toby A. Blackstar, associate pastor of Sure Foundations Ministries of Lawton, and Randy Whitehorn, First Born Church, Otoe Chapter Native American Church, officiating. Burial was under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home of Lawton.

Perry Lee Botone Jr. entered this world on July 22, 1971, in Ponca City, the son of Perry Lee Botone Sr. and Mildred Lucille DeRoin Watson. He was reared in Red Rock and attended Frontier public schools.

During his childhood, Perry showed his love for singing at the age of three, and, at the age of five, he was taught the Otoe-Missouria songs by his Otoe-Missouria grandparents, the late Baxter Atkins. Later that same year, his grandpa and grandma Atkins paid for Perry's right to be seated and sing with other singers. At the age of 12, he began to compose songs and also formed his first drum group, "Whitehawks."

In Perry's young adulthood and presently, he became well-known for his unique style of singing and song compositions. He worked for a short time as a tribal police officer for the Otoe-Missouria Police Department and as a security guard for the Seven Clans Paradise Casino. He worked for the Conoco-Phillips refinery plant as a scaffold builder at the time of his death.

On Dec. 1, 2004, he married the former Lynda Blackstar in Perry, and the couple made their home in Red Rock. Perry was an avid culturalist who took great pride in singing at the drum at powwows throughout the U.S. and he is an original member of the world renown singing group, Yellowhammer, which is composed of singers from the Otoe-Missouria and Ponca tribes. He is also known for his original compositions of traditional Native American songs which are still being sung throughout the powwow world today.

Perry was a lifelong member of the First Born Church, Otoe Chapter Native American Church of Red Rock and a proud member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma and was of Otoe-Missouria and Iowa descent.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife, Lynda Blackstar Botone of the home in Red Rock; four daughters, Ophelia, Angela, Ava and Rebecca Lea Botone, all of the home; one son, Cleve D. Botone of the home; his adopted father, Geary Watson of Red Rock; one sister, Antoinette Hopper of Ponca City; one brother, Norman Bernal of Taos, N.M.; one adopted brother, Oliver Littlecook Sr. of Ponca City; four aunts, Rosella DeRoin and Deloris Wood, both of Red Rock, Patsy Haury and Mattie Tsonetokoy, both of Oklahoma City; one uncle, Buddy Tsonetokoy of Los Angeles, Calif.; one nephew, LittleBear Littlecook of Ponca City; two nieces, Tara Littlecook of Ponca City and Kirsten Thompson of Red Rock; grandmothers, Velma Kemble of Ponca City, Doris Hunter of Shawnee, Florene Washabaugh of Enid and Wanda Stoneroad of Oklahoma City; grandfather, Nelson BigBow of Lawton; as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Perry Lee Botone Sr. on Oct. 30, 1990; his mother on June 20, 2003; his maternal grandparents, Cleve J. and Julia White DeRoin; paternal grandparents, Francis and Lillie Botone Tsonetokoy; his great-grandparents, John and Lizzie Faw-Faw DeRoin, Corbett and Ruth Vetter White and Fred Botone; one sister, Ophelia Bernal; and one infant sister.

Perry Lee Botone

My prayers go out to Perry's family. He was a good friend, great singer, and outstanding composer or music. We've shared many songs, traded cd's, and had many good times together. He will be deeply missed around the powwow circle. My prayers also go out to the Yellowhammer drum group on the loss of a singer, and a brother.

Our prayers and sympathies to the Botone family

I just wanted to extend our prayers and love to the Botone and Yellowhammer families. I have always been greeted by Perry with a good smile and handshake whereever I saw him. I was saddened to learn of his passing at such a young age. We will remember you in our prayers. Jim, Bonnie, Hokie and April Clairmont

My prayers have been going out to the family. I was shocked when I learned he was first in a coma. It was sad to hear about someone so young losing his life in his prime. My family's thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

Perry lives on...

I'm sitting here listening to some songs Perry put on a tape recorder for us in DC at the NMAI Pow Wow. It felt a bit weird thinking about how he is no longer "physically" here with us when I caught a "cold chill".

Although he is no longer on this Earth with us, a little bit of Perry will be with us all any time one of those keen YellowHammer tunes are kicked out that he composed.

well LSS I think I finally figured out who you are. If you are listening to that tape from D.C., don't know if it's the same one I am on too, but to let you know....we are making a cd tonight, in honor of my brother Perry, all proceeds for this cd will be going to his wife and children. All songs that are going to be on this cd are those that he made and you probably know them all, not going to be any new ones. Just a cd in his memory from us (yellowhammer). Don't know how many songs we are going to put on it yet cuz we all know he has a lot of them. Not sure when it will be out....but will let you know.

And I appreciate all the comments and prayers everyone has posted and said for our group and his family.

Unhappy Missing You

I had lived Perry for many years, he was the only father I had known. Due to unfortunate events, I had not been with him in his final year of life. I wish with all my heart that I could have, though things don't always go as you want. This is just me saying how much I love and miss his physical self in my everyday life. There isnt a day that goes by that I dont think of him, I pray for his four daughters and son. I wish the very best for all of them.
