Steve Charging Eagle

Saturday morning at 3:00 am, our dad and grandfather, Steve Charging Eagle, passed on to the spirit world. For those young ones who do not know, Dad is a legend as a mens traditional champion in old style. He danced his final contest and won it at Oglala Nation in August. He passed away at age 83 years. He had lung cancer and his body was too weak. He died peacefully in his sleep; no pain or suffering.
A two night wake will be held on Thursday and Friday and funeral on Saturday at 10 am. All will be held at the community center in Red Scaffold, SD.
We can be contacted at (605) 538-4429 or 538-4319.
Pilamaya pe,
Stephanie Charging Eagle and family

Mitakuye oyas'in;

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and to the Oglala Sioux Tribe. He will be missed... His smile and firm handshake was always encouraging when I danced at Pine Ridge.

Mr. Charging Eagle was a Hunkpapa Lakota and a member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota.

I am so sorry to hear this - but am thankful that he went peacefully.

Your family will be in my prayers. Deepest sympathy.

Stephanie:
I am so sorry to hear about your dad and I have alot of good memories of he and my dad(Ronnie Harris, Sr.) at the pow wows and casinos talking, dancing and enjoying each other's company. Your dad was a special man,an inspiration to young men, and women, in and out of the arena. I was blessed with the opportunity to see him dance at Prairie Island and see his special with your family present a few summers ago. I always stood up when your dad was dancing because he made me feel good and made feel proud to be a native american and to be of the Sioux nation. Lots of love to you and your family. Sandy and Edmond Tate Nevaquaya and family( RG and my mom)....
