Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving won't be the same this year, my step father of 30 years passed away last year on November 27 from a massive heart attack. Dad had turned 71 on the 24th of November which was Thanksgiving Day. This will be a hard month for my mom , I worry about her she is so lonely. All I can do is hold her and cry with her. We moved mom from Arkansas to Kansas when she felt she was ready to leave her home after 30 years. I wish I could skip the days of sorrow that have yet to come or I wish I could wake up and this was all a dream. My real father passed away when I was 10, I am greatful that I had two fathers but why couldnt I have just kept one. |

Micki,I am so sorry to hear your grief. It's so easy to give advice when we haven't been there, so I won't evey try. Just, remember you have a third father (who is actually your first). This year, instead of thinking of his leaving, make a wonderful celebration of his life. |

I can totally sympathize Micki. November is known as the death month to me because of all the friends and family I've lost in past Novembers. It will get easier but you have to be able to mourn and let go. No matter how much pain we feel for losing them, you have to remember they are in a better place than we are and be happy for them knowing we WILL see them again one day when it's our time to go there. Take all the love and advice he gave you while he was here and use it. Pass it on to your kids (someday if you don't have any now). Be thankful you had him in your life.

Finding peace
Micki,
I hope you find peace and comfort in Blackbear's words. And, Blackbear, I know by the way you wrote it came from your heart and soul. I have lost close loved ones. I was closer to my grandparents than some people are their own parents. Grieving is a cycle, one day you'll be walking along, just feeling kind of good, maybe whistling a tune, and you'll know you've come to terms with your loss. God Bless you both.
