My grandmother(the NDN one) was a card shark. She worked as an LPN at St Thomas hospital here in Nashville in the 50's and 60's, and used to wait until a new crop of interns came in, then "walk in" on their card games. Cleaned them suckers out. Even won a fur coat playing poker with several politicians, lawyers, and a prominent businessman of the day(he was the one who lost the fur coat... a knee length Russian sable with a silk satin lining. Its hanging in my closet now).
When she was dating my grandfather back in 1932, they went downtown to go to the movies. As they were walking on the sidewalk, a white lady mistook my grandmother for being a light-skinned black, called her a high-yellow wench, and told her to get out of the way. Grandaddy just managed to catch Grandmother before her fist connected with the white woman, but Grandmother was still trying to land a punch and called that woman everything but a human being. He told the white woman to move along before he had to turn Grandmother loose. A cop showed up and be darned if Grandmother didn't threaten to knock him flat on his a$$ if he tried to arrest her. Keep in mind that my grandmother was barely 5 ft tall and weighed about 85 lbs, and had itty-bitty hands and feet. The cop started laughing and made Grandmother so mad she did take a swing at him. Grandaddy had to bail her out. They never did get to go see the movie that night. |

Well... one time my grandma was babysitting my youngest sister and took her to the Grand Canyon to "sell jewries"... well, the cops showed up, caught my grandma illegally selling her ndn trinkets and tossed both her AND my baby sis in jail. How's that for a story... my granny turned my 3 year old sister into a criminal... talk about your bad influences!!!!!! LOL

that's cool, I used to seriously OCD about what I looked like an it wasnt until my nalii told me that it was the inperfection that she looked for because perfection doesnt exist and inperfection is beauty. Made me feel all warm inside. lol. yeah that was the day my uncle was met his potential wife. He had come home late from Salt Lake and she told him she was going to marry him off. He was divorced then and had fathered 3 kids. The expression on his face was a sight to be seen.lol

da Rezziest Grammy
My Grammy on my mom's side and my Great Aunt on my dad's side used to play together when they were little. Once when they were at the river a white guy came up in a boat and banked near them to fish. My grammy asked if he'd give them a ride in his keen boat but he said he wasn't gonna take a couple dirty injun kids for a ride. When he got up and walked into the bushes to take a leak, my grammy and auntie stole the boat!

My Grandma was my best friend if I had a problem or a any questions she was always there for me, I remember one year I told her about a boy I liked & wanted to go steady with him she looked at me & said why would you do that? when you could have many boyfriends, you could miss out on the right one & not even know it.
