There was huge explosion at a Gas Refinery and all fire departments in the surrounding communities were called.
Numerous fire personnel and fire trucks responded to the scene but were unable to get close enough to the fire because of the seering heat and smoke.
When all hope was given up one of the smallest volunteer fire departments in the county showed up in their old beaten down fire truck and pulled to within a few feet of the fire.
Four brave firemen jumped out of the fire truck and proceeded to attack the fire.
Upon seeing this act of heroism the other fire units jumped in and someone managed to contain the fire and save the refinery from any further damage.
The manager of the refinery was so impressed by this small fire departments act of bravey that on behalf of the gas company awarded the department a check in the amount of $100, 000 dollars.
When the manager asked the fire chief of this small department what he was going to do with all that money, the fire chief responded, "Well, first thing we're going to do is, fix the brakes on that damn truck."
