Smile Missouri River Brand Jingle Pattern

Has any one used the Missouri River brand jingle dress pattern? I was wondering if I should make the dress out of all one color fabric and accent with different colored rickrack and double bias tape. What do you ladies do? I want to add more than one color fabric but I want it to look as good as possible too. The pattern has four parts, the Apron, Cape, Dress and Pullover. Im trying to visualize what would look best. I'm keeping with darker blues and silvery gray, like a thundercloud. Just wasn't sure if I should make the dress all one color or to make each peice a different color.. I think if I make the dress all one color and maybe the cape an alternate color that would look good. But then i'm thinking should I make the cape darker or lighter in color than the rest of the dress? Any input you could share would be greatly apperciated!!

Hey girl, I haven't messed with that pattern but my dress is just all one piece. I think the Missouri River pattern is closer to the old style of dress. Something I've heard a lot of ladies doing is just finding a dress pattern that you like the way it lays and make sure it is the proper length. Then add your jingles in the design that you like. I found a pattern that is a Project Runway pattern that I'm using to make my next one. It is too short so I need to add length to it but it has the traditional slightly puffy sleeves and a slightly flaired skirt (A-line). You can see mine this weekend. I personally don't care for the way the apron style looks BUT I've seen some that were done very beautifully and look nice on the right person.

I went with this pattern because I want to dance old style, I like the look it is more traditional, I think that fits me more. Most of the traditional dresses I've seen are one color or a bit of a printed material. I will probably make it all one color or just add in a second color some how.

How about doing some applique work out of a light blue and gray? You can keep it really geometric and traditional and add some more color to it. I'll bring my sketch pad and such this weekend. If you don't mind, bring the pattern with you cause I've never looked at it. We'll figure it out!

I have this pattern and use it in conjunction with a Simplicity one that I found in the sales bin. I think the Missouri River pattern is a good one to use for old style dresses. For myself, I use it for the top portion of my dress and use the other pattern for the bottom part.

Yeah, its creative when using different patterns. I use a men's shirt pattern - but if I want the kinda pouffy sleeves with a narrower sleeve at the elbow to wrist I use a diff. pattern. It's fun to do this and that. :) Be Creative!
