Quick Question for you dancers...

My friend is wanting to make some of those really long kinda lanyard looking things and at the end theres a whole bunch of feathers & they attach to the hair tie...

i don't think i described them very well lol but i did the best i could lol...
if you know what i'm talking about;
What do they make them out of instead of getting them beaded??

so far we've tried shoe laces and did the whole Chinese bracelet braiding to them but they seem REALLY REALLY stiff and thick...any pointers??

if you could help me that wold be great!

Are you talking about ropes with hackles on the end? ... They hang from your braid ties and there are two of em on each braid? I think that is what you mean... If you don't want em beaded you can use those big plastic pony beads, not the regular cherrios looking ones, but the round ones that look like crystals. Then you can make a pattern with the colors and then put hackles on the ends with cones to cover where the hackles connect to the string at the bottom of the last bead... LOL!! I am soooo bad at explaining it... I made some of these before I made my ropes cuz they were cheap and quick to make. Lemme kno if you have more questions :) good luck!

and I've seen some with feathers at the bottom they kinda look like lil dusters...

bu yeah we tried the rope but she wanted a pattern on it so she did some kind of Chinese braiding technique thinga mahbob lol...and it's stiff so i think imma tell her to use the keen lookin beads!! = ]

Ur welcome! If she wants to make beaded ones later the easiest way to do it is to buy rope from either a fabric store or like wally world. The rope should be just a lil thinner than she wants em after they are beaded, cuz when you add beads they get thicker. Then thread a needle and pull the thread through the rope a couple of times so it doesn't come off. Then put like 30 beads on the thread and wrap it around the rope and then go back into the rope and tack ur beads down. Then go back through the last beads and add thirty more and do it again.... It is basically a whip stich around a rope and it is really fast. If she practices on lil stuff like bracelets and necklaces she can get a technique and make patterns. i got a friend who can do all kinds of patterns! so yeah... If u wanna upgrade later that is how ya do it :) Good Luck!

I've started beading ropes a couple of months ago.....and it really shouldn't take this long.

HA HAH! I got a buncha these for my grass headband. It does get fast as heck with some practice... After my first two sets, I could brick stitch a decent set in a weekend and whip stitch in an afternoon.

Loop necklaces still take me forever though :p

Go get em ladies! (how bout a spare for me while you're at it :D)

hello. I know what you are talking about. My uncle. terry fiddler, makes them. I was aksing him how he made them, and he said beading around the rope. He does great work. He tries to sell them for 150. but that is pretty much what he told me. rope is more sturdy than anything else for these. hope that helps.
