i briefly danced fancy, but after severely spraining my ankle two years ago it really bothers me to dance. i'm thinking of switching to jingle. i'm sure my ankle will still bother me, but not as bad..and i can't NOT dance. my problem is, (hopefully you guys wont slaughter me for this!) i dont know any ojibwe customs associated with the dress and the dance (other than the reason for the dress) and i've heard an array of steps to be taken before even putting on the dress (fasting, smudging, abstinence?) how many of these are accurate i don't know. i dont feel comfortable just picking up the style without knowing i'm doing it in the most respectful way (because i'm not ojibwe). i don't personally know anyone of ojibwe descent to ask about this and i really don't want to just google it because i have no idea how much information would be accurate and it just seems very impersonal and almost disrespectful. any guidance anyone can offer is much appreciated. thank you in advance.
