new dancer, dress

My daughter wants to dance Jingle style this year. I am so happy that she has an interest in our heritage! I only wish I was taught more about it as I was not raised with very much heritage celebrating.

I have a question about the dress - does the entire dress need to be made by hand? Or is it ok to add all the details to a pre-made dress? I have majority of the materials (cones, ribbons, etc), but unfortunately I'm not much of a sewer to make the actual dress...and even botched the first attempt to sew a dress. I've searched the internet for photos and ideas, and some dresses look like they are made completely by hand, while some look like they were normal dress that had all the details add to them. Is this ok for us non-sewers??

I should mention that she is not planning on competing in the dress - she just feels a "calling" to dance, and to participate in some local pws. Not sure if that makes any difference....but thought I'd throw that in there too...

There are already threads about how to make the dresses and even one on how to clean them, in the jingle forum.

this is up to you. There is alot of information on this website about this subject. I advise you to learn as much as you can before hand.
