Taffeta?

I was wondering if anyone has done a jingle dress with taffeta as the main material. How would this hold up? How hot is it?

I've never used it for a jingle dress but I'm pretty sure it would be a hot material to wear. Your best bet is to use a cotton, crepe, or if you want it to have that shiny look you can use a crepe back satin it breaths alot better than regular satin. You can use the tafitta for applique.

My mom and I have used tafetta before. It is the base for my cousin's dress and part of my new one. My mom loves it. It really sturdy, and it doesn't stretch once you get the jingles on. As a seamstress it works but as a dancer...don't wear it for the afternoon session.

I prefer to not use taffeta as the main material for a dress. Its just a little too thin to use unlined by itself and can wrinkle badly. Moire taffeta is a little heavier but moisture will ruin its unique "watermarked" look. I also agree with the other posters that there are more breathable fabrics out there and would recommend using the taffeta for your ribbonwork applique instead.
