Standing to show respect

Is it normal to require all attendants to a pow-wow to stand and remove their headgear when a jingle dance is being performed (when it is not part of a healing ceremony)?

The MC announced that this past weekend when I was doing my exhibition. I didn't think it was necessary. It might've been a personal decision.

That's why I asked the question. I was there (although I didn't dance), small world.

J.L.

This is a good question.

I wonder if this answer changes if:

1. None of the dancers are Anishinabe Kwe? or

2. It is during contemporary jingle dress competition? or

3. The jingle dancers are far away from where the jingle dance originated?

If the MC is a good MC, then he should at least have them stand for Anishinabe Kwe who've travelled to their powwow to dance.
