Do you have Redwood jingles? Those seem to darken after awhile. I have not had much trouble with other brands.
Anyhow, I have not tried jingle cleaning myself but have heard of other people using a chrome or metal polish like Turtle Wax or Brasso to clean their jingles. Look for it where car cleaning supplies are sold. If you do try this, I would highly recommend removing the jingles from your dress. The chemicals can be caustic and might ruin your fabric. At the least there is the danger of the black tarnish coming off on the dress as well. You could try one of the drier cleaners like Turtle Wax on one jingle at a time while still attached to your dress but be very, very careful.

It seems like those Missouri River ones darken after awhile though, but I've put them through several cycles of the washing machine over the years.

I heard putting varnish on jingles before you sew em on your dress helps them from getting black. I've never tried it though.

Lightbulb tip

turn the jingles around (silver only) they shine even better or just take the old ones off and replace with new ones, that's my tip for the day...

wash the whole dress in the bath tub with a little laundry detergent and some vinegar, but only about a cap ful... it keeps them shiny and your whole dress gets clean
