Male jingle dress dancers

What do you think about men/boys who wear jingle dresses in switch dance contests?

I was at Stroud one year and a guy had a jingle dress....Had empty beer cans for jingles , and an empty beer box for a crown. It was quite an outfit. I think he won!

I saw one usin pop cans one time for jingles and another time one had pot pie pans. That was a hoot...

As long as they are being absurd like that I don't have a prob.... I just don't wanna see on in a real dress. Just like I would feel uncomfortable with a women wearin full guy stuff.

i dunno i mean if the dress holds no medicine and sole purpose of the girl dancer was to compete then id say yay but i would come up to the dude and say nice dress*l*
and say hmm wonder if hes wearing anything underneath*lmao*
but in all seriousness the jingle dress isnt something that can just be put on by anyone...if the dress holds medicine then no but this subject is a touchy subject too..

I think that the switch dance is meant to be in JEST...not in anyway serious, so I agree with Musicedu77....if it's done in the spirit it's meant to be, it's funny and such a good time!!! However, there are families who are very serious and respectful of their daughters who dance, and their dresses are totally off limits!! But I think that the people are knowledgeable enough to "police" themselves when it comes to this.

I personally prefer seeing guys out there, straight off the drums, with fancy shawls on....it's more comical!!!

I agree. To me, men putting on jingle dresses seems like a slap in the face to real jingle dancers and the Ojibwe people in general. Its especially bad when they paint up like whores...I know its supposed to be a joke and all, but it just seems inappropriate to me.

I love switch dances I laugh my A** off every time. I think that the jingle switch is just simple fun, however I do not think that beer cans and beer boxes are in good taste, and frankly disrespectful. now befor anyone decides to get all ruffled over defending the man who wore this in the circle, let me say you do not have to be intentional in your disrespect for the act to be disrespectful. the circle is sacred. lol i have seen some danged good switch dancers coming from both sides
